Memorializing the Enslaved in Arlington, 1669-1865
Three markers honoring the lives of enslaved individuals who played a vital role in shaping our county and country have been installed. Situated in the sidewalk at their last known residences, these markers serve as a testament to the resilience and contributions of over 2750 enslaved individuals uncovered through MEA’s research.
Please join us for the Dedication Ceremony honoring three once enslaved individuals:
Margaret Hyson: Born ca 1825, Died July 11, 1891.
George Hyson: Born ca 1851, Died June 1900.
Charlotte Hyson: Born Nov. 10, 1853, Died June 9, 1921.
We will be honoring them at 3:00pm, Saturday March 15, 2025
